As you plan your trip to Muir Woods National Monument you might be looking for a place to stay in the area. Unfortunately, there is no accommodation in the park and camping is not permitted on the premises. This might surprise you, but on the plus side, it gives you the chance to stay at one of the amazing accommodations near the national monument! No matter, if you want to camp near Muir Woods, stay at a rustic cabin, or unwind in a boutique hotel, this area of the Bay, has an accommodation that’s right for you.

If you end up choosing to stay across the bay from Muir Woods in San Francisco itself, there are plenty of convenient transportation services between the city and the park.

CAMPING NEAR MUIR WOODS

KIRBY COVE CAMPGROUND

Kirby Cove Campground is one of the more popular campgrounds near Muir Woods and is located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. This campsite provides campers with breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and the Pacific Coast. Each campsite is secluded and protected, with a fire pit, and charcoal grill. There’s no clean water available at the campsite, and pets, and RVs are not allowed. The camping fee is $30, and the day-use is $45. To make a reservation call 1(877) 444-6777.

 

BICENTENNIAL CAMPGROUND

The Bicentennial Campground is surrounded by Cyprus trees and is about 30 minutes from Muir Woods. This is the perfect campground for anyone who wants to stay closer to San Francisco. The Bicentennial Campground has three sites that can each fit three people with one tent. There’s no water available at the site, but you can get water at the Visitor’s Center that is about one mile away. BBQ grills are available for campers, and you can also use the BBQ grills at Battery Wallace picnic area. Campfires, pets, and RV’s are not permitted. The fee to camp at The Bicentennial Campground is $20. For reservations call 1(877) 444-6777.

HAWK CAMPGROUND

If you are a nature enthusiast and enjoy backcountry style camping, Hawk Campground is for you. This free campsite is the most remote site in the area and is located high up in Gerbode Valley.  This campground has three sites, that can comfortably fit 4 people in each site, and comes with chemical toilets and a picnic table. There is no water available on site, and pets, fires, and RVs are not allowed. Call (415) 331 – 1540 to book a reservation.

HAYPRESS CAMPGROUND

Haypress Campground is located just three-quarters of a mile from the Tennessee Valley parking area. It has five campsites that can comfortably fit four people in each site. The Haypress campground can be fully reserved. Like the other campgrounds above, there’s no water available at this free site, and there are no fires, pets, or RVs allowed. WEST POINT INN

Tucked away in the trees of the south slope of Mt. Tamalpais, is the West Point Inn. This off the grid inn is the perfect hotel for hikers looking to stay at rustic, yet cozy accommodations. The West Point Inn has stunning panoramic views of the East Bay, San Francisco, part of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Pacific Ocean. The Inn has seven rooms and 5 cabins available to book. The towering redwoods surround the Inn, which makes it the perfect location to stay after a day exploring Muir Woods. There are 25 total guest rooms that all have a cozy, modern design.
