Things to Do in Muir Woods

Looking Up at Redwood Canopy in Muir Woods

Taking a trip to Muir Woods National Monument is one of the top outdoor adventures to go on in the Bay Area. You will be in awe of the giant coastal redwoods, as you explore the trails of one of the last old-growth forests in the world. Next time you are in San Francisco book one of these tours and experience Muir Woods for yourself.

While you are at Muir Woods, there are a few activities you can choose to do to enhance your experience in the enchanted forest. Add any or all of these activities to your trip for a fun and memorable day among the California redwoods!

TAKE A HIKE

Muir Woods is the perfect place in the Bay Area to reconnect with nature and enjoy a hike. The park has different trails that vary in length, skill, and terrain, all of which allow guests to admire the towering redwoods, animals who call the forest home, and beautiful scenery. If you are looking for an easy trail stick to the main trail loop that follows the Redwood Creek. More advanced hikers can choose one of the more difficult loops, such as Dipsea Loop, where you will get to see stunning views of Mt. Tamalpais, the Pacific Ocean, and San Francisco.

ATTEND A TREE TALK

Throughout the day park rangers give 15 minute long talks about the park. If you are short on time, you can enjoy a quick overview of the beautiful environment. When you get to the park, check the program board for the tree talk times and locations.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR PROGRAM

If you are looking for more of an independent adventure, you can pick up a self-guided program at the Visitor Center. The programs are $1 and will inform you about the park and redwood ecology.
