The weather in Muir Woods can change quickly — mornings may be cool and afternoons warmer. We recommend dressing in layers so you can adjust easily as temperatures drop or rise throughout the day.
Bring a Reusable Water Bottle
There are water refill stations available inside the park, so be sure to bring a reusable bottle. It’s a great way to stay hydrated and help keep Muir Woods eco-friendly!
Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes
You’ll be exploring beautiful trails surrounded by towering redwoods, so comfortable walking shoes are a must. Paths are well maintained, but you’ll enjoy your visit more with proper footwear.
Entrance Tickets
Muir Woods entrance tickets can be purchased on-site with either cash or credit card.
You do not need to buy tickets online before your visit — they’re available once you arrive at the park.
Be sure to book your shuttle or tour both to and from Muir Woods in advance. You will NOT be able to book a shuttle or tour back, including ride shares.
Operating Hours:
Muir Woods is open daily, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
When To Go:
Temperatures range from 40-70°F (4-21°C) year-round. Expect rain from late October to early May and morning fog during the summer months. Fall (August-October) often has the best weather, but the park’s beauty is constant year-round if you’re dressed appropriately.
